Man City starting line-up vs Leicester includes Raheem Sterling as striker

Pep Guardiola has named Raheem Sterling up front to face Leicester City in the absence of Gabriel Jesus and Sergio Aguero.

The Manchester City boss had admitted before the game that he had just 13 fit players to pick from, and his team selection against Leicester showed just how thin his options are.

Rodri and Phil Foden - who have played in both of City's opening games of the season over the past six days - start, although Nathan Ake and Fernandinho come back in after getting a rest in the Carabao Cup win over Bournemouth.

Ake is partnered by Eric Garcia in central defence, with Kyle Walker and Benjamin Mendy the full-backs. Ederson comes back in for Zack Steffen in goal.

Fernandinho and Rodri anchors the midfield, with Kevin de Bruyne shaking off a knock picked up at the end of the Bournemouth game to start.

In attack, Sterling appears to take the central role with Riyad Mahrez and Phil Foden in support.

City's injury problems ensured that there was room for some of youngsters on the bench, including Liam Delap, Tommy Doyle and Cole Palmer.

Aymeric Laporte and Aleks Zinchenko were fit enough for the bench, despite Guardiola suggesting they would not return before the international break.

There was no sign of John Stones or Nicolas Otamendi in the matchday squad.

Man City starting XI vs Leicester: Ederson, Walker, Garcia, Ake, Mendy, Rodrigo, Fernandinho (C), De Bruyne, Mahrez, Sterling, Foden

Substitutes: Steffen, Zinchenko, Laporte, Torres, Delap, Doyle, Palmer
