Pep Guardiola has named a strong Manchester City side to face Burnley, with Aymeric Laporte picked at left-back.
After Manchester United earned a record-equalling win last night, they moved level on points with City at the top of the Premier League, albeit having played two games more. City can restore their three point gap over United by beating Burnley, and Guardiola has turned to a solid defence including Ruben Dias, John Stones and Laporte.
Ederson continues in goal as usual, with Joao Cancelo picked over Kyle Walker at right-back to complete the back four. With Cancelo's recent tendency to advance into midfield, though, the back line is likely to be more of a back three when City are in possession.
Into midfield, and Guardiola has once again picked Rodri and Ilkay Gundogan, who will be supported by Cancelo from the back and also Bernardo Silva dropping deep from the front line.
In attack, Sergio Aguero is not yet ready to feature despite returning to training at the CFA after isolating with Covid, so Gabriel Jesus continues in the centre, with Riyad Mahrez and Raheem Sterling in support.
Guardiola can turn to trusted faces like Kyle Walker, Aleks Zinchenko, Ferran Torres and Phil Foden on the bench if needed. There's also a surprise inclusion for Claudio Gomes, the young defensive midfielder signed in 2018 who has featured for the under-23s in recent months after a loan spell away.
Man City starting XI vs Burnley: Ederson, Cancelo, Dias, Stones, Laporte, Rodrigo, Gundogan, Mahrez, Bernardo, Sterling (C), Jesus
Substitutes: Steffen, Walker, Zinchenko, Torres, Mendy, Fernandinho, Foden, Garcia, Gomes
