Man City starlet Phil Foden hailed as 'best talent I have ever seen' by coach Pep Guardiola

Pep Guardiola has lavished praise on Phil Foden, claiming the Manchester City youngster is the most talented player he has ever worked with.

The 19-year-old is one of a few academy graduates to break into the star-studded squad after making his debut in 2016, and Guardiola has faced calls for Foden to feature more frequently.

Having been limited to substitute appearances in the Premier League, the starlet proved his worth with a crucial strike in the 1-0 win over Liverpool - a goal that effectively helped City win their fourth Premier League title.

Guardiola joked that he is the reason behind Foden's lack of playing time, but the Catalan is under no illusions about the talent the midfielder has.

"I have said many times in press conferences, but maybe not said it in front of him. Phil is the most, most, most talented player I have ever seen in my career as a manager," Guardiola said.

"His problem is sometimes his manager doesn't put him in the starting XI.

"He deserves all the minutes but with his competitors it isn't easy. He works incredibly. He knows I'm here to help him."

Foden, who signed a new long-term contract in December to keep him at the Etihad Stadium until 2024, has scored seven goals in 36 appearances.

But despite the arrival of £62m midfielder Rodri from Atletico Madrid, it is understood Foden will be given more minutes in the City XI this season.
