Man City star Sergio Aguero sends injury update after undergoing surgery

Manchester City star Sergio Aguero has revealed that he has undergone surgery and that he will soon begin his recovery.

Aguero started his first match since the Premier League's restart on Monday but wasn't able to see out the first half after feeling discomfort in his knee throughout the game.

The Argentine was substituted after being left in a heap from a Ben Mee tackle that won his side a penalty on the way to City's 5-0 victory over Burnley.

Pep Guardiola was not optimistic about Aguero's chances of playing again this season in the aftermath of the game and it was later confirmed that he would have to travel to Barcelona for further examinations from the Blues boss' preferred knee specialist and surgeon Dr. Ramon Cugat.

Further assessments of the injury revealed it required surgery and Aguero has already gone under the knife. He has since posted an update on Twitter confirming that the operation was a success.

"Everything went well, and I'll soon begin recovery," he said. "A big thanks to Dr Cugat and his team – and to all of you for your support."

Aguero now faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines and Guardiola has named four players who can help fill the void left in his absence.

"We don’t have any doubts about Gabriel," Guardiola said in his pre-match press conference before City take on Chelsea tomorrow.

"The only doubt is that not one single player can play every three days. Raheem [Sterling] can play in this position, even Gundogan and Bernardo [Silva]. Not like a [proper] striker but we can use them."
