Man City star Rodri: ‘Everything is going right for Liverpool… Let's see what happens in the future’

Rodri has warned Liverpool that history could repeat itself after Manchester City’s defeat at Anfield.

The Spain midfielder issued a defiant response to Liverpool’s 3-1 win on Sunday - insisting the title race is not over yet.

The Premier League champions are nine points behind Jurgen Klopp’s Premier League leaders - but Rodri was quick to remind the Merseysiders of the manner in which Man City hunted down a similar gap last season.

“We are far from them now, but there is still a big part of the season left,” he said. “We are not going to give up. We are the current champions and we are not going to make it easy for anyone.

“This team has shown it many times before. This team has won the Premier League two seasons in a row and that isn't a coincidence.

“Last season, the team was seven points behind and it could have been 10 in case of losing (to Liverpool), and they managed to win the league in the end.

“We are in November. There is still a lot left. They are very strong at the moment and they are having everything right. Let's see what happens in the future”

Rodri conceded Liverpool’s finishing was the difference on the day, with Fabinho, Mo Salah and Sadio Mane all getting on the score-sheet. But he claims City proved their title credentials by dominating the European champions in front of the Kop.

“They were more clinical than us, I think that was the key factor,” he said. “I think we were much better overall, we created more chances than them, but they arrive to our goal three times and scored three goals.

“We knew it was going to be a very difficult game here in Anfeld, with all their fans supporting them. I think we have been brave, we have tried during the 90 minutes, we never gave up.”
