Man City star Raheem Sterling free for England duty after escaping travel clampdown

Raheem Sterling is free to join up with the England camp after escaping new quarantine rules.

The Manchester City star was at a party last week for Olympic star Usain Bolt’s 34 birthday, after which the sprint star tested positive for Covid-19.

That led to fears that Sterling may also have been affected, and could be forced to withdraw from the England squad for next week’s Nations League qualifiers against Iceland and Denmark.

Sterling was reported to have killed that notion by having a test in Jamaica, which is said to have come back negative, but that has not yet been confirmed.

But the UK government on Thursday night added Jamaica to the list of countries from which travellers must self-isolate for 14 days on arrival on these shores.

That led to fresh fears Sterling may be forced into quarantine, and out of the England squad, which meets up on Monday.

But Sterling has already flown home, ahead of the deadline of 4am tomorrow set for the start of quarantine.

That, together with his medical all-clear, means he is free to join up with the England squad, and is expected to be back in City training the following week.
