Man City star Raheem Sterling admits pressure at Anfield played big part in blown Liverpool title race

Raheem Sterling says he felt more pressure from fans to win the Premier League when he was at Liverpool than he does at Manchester City.

Sterling was part of the Liverpool side that blew the title in 2014, thanks to Steven Gerrard’s infamous slip against Chelsea and the remarkable 3-3 draw with Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.

The Reds remain without a top flight title since 1990, but lead City by a point with ten games to play this season. Anfield has appeared nervy at times in recent weeks as the side edge closer to breaking that run, though the Reds showed little sign of being affected as they thumped Watford 5-0 on Wednesday.

However, Sterling who won the title with City last season, says the pressure on Merseyside was a significant factor in losing the 2013/14 race.

"When I was there [at Liverpool] I did feel a lot more pressure than when I'm here, with matchdays and the fans. I think that did get to us a little bit," Sterling told Sky Sports.

"We were in control and we had the opportunity to see it through but we didn't do that.

"Here we're completely focused on each game and trying to win each game as it comes. It's a complete different scenario from last year. We were a bit more comfortable towards this point of the season."
