Man City star Phil Foden names Manchester United's Marcus Rashford as one of his role models

Man City star Phil Foden wants to emulate Marcus Rashford's achievements at Manchester United and has labelled his England teammate as a "great role model".

Ahead of Saturday's Manchester derby, Foden has spoken of his admiration for Rashford, who similarly broke through the United academy to become a first-team regular.

Foden has made eight Premier League appearances for City this season already as his role in the squad grows following the departure of David Silva.

The 20-year-old has insisted there is more to come from his game as he continues to develop and sees Rashford as the perfect example of a young player whose influence in their boyhood club has gradually grown.

“Rashford is a great role model,” Foden told The Times.

“He’s similar to me. He loves his club and has been through the academy and knows what it’s like. So it’s someone that I look up to, with him being English, and I would like to do the same as what he said, and stay at City for as long as possible.”

“I know I’m nowhere near the standard that I want to be,” he added.

“I have two Premier League winner’s medals, but I don’t feel like I’ve actually won them because I didn’t play a big part.

“I’m determined to play more games and play a big part in the league this year, but I know I need to be patient. I’m at Manchester City and we buy loads of players. We have the money to do that. We have a big squad, and it rotates all the time.”
