Man City star Kevin De Bruyne ruled out of Manchester derby

Manchester City star Kevin De Bruyne has missed out on Sunday's Manchester derby against cross-town rivals Manchester United.

De Bruyne had sat out Wednesday's FA Cup victory over Sheffield Wednesday after picking up a back injury towards the end of the Carabao Cup final.

Pep Guardiola had revealed on Friday that the Belgian was set to return to training on Saturday to give himself a fighting chance to be fit for the trip to Old Trafford.

“He’s getting better, tomorrow he’s going to train, he’s not perfect but he feels better," he said. “This morning with the physio he said he feels better. Not perfect.”

The Blues boss had maintained that De Bruyne remained a doubt for the match and it has come to fruition as De Bruyne hasn't even been named among the substitutes for the clash.

In his place Phil Foden has been given a starting berth for only the third time in the Premier League this season.

The 19-year-old was the Man of the Match in last weekend's cup final win over Aston Villa and, after being rested in mid-week, he has been rewarded for his performance with a place in the starting line-up.

Man City starting XI vs Manchester United: Ederson; Cancelo, Otamendi, Fernandinho, Zinchenko; Bernardo, Rodri, Gundogan; Sterling, Aguero, Foden.

Substitutes: Bravo, Walker, Mendy, Garcia, Silva, Mahrez, Jesus.
