Man City star Kevin De Bruyne plays down injury fears after limping out of win over Leicester

Kevin De Bruyne eased Manchester City’s injury worries by revealing it was cramp that forced him off late in Saturday’s 3-1 win over Leicester City.

Having tormented Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium a week ago, De Bruyne was on top form again, leading an excellent attacking display, eventually setting up the third goal for Gabriel Jesus, which clinched an important three points.

There was a late scare, however, as De Bruyne went down in stoppage time and had to be replaced by Sergio Aguero, himself making his return from injury.

But when asked about the severity of the problem by Sky Sports, De Bruyne had good news, saying: “[It was] just a bit of cramp. In the end my body said just take a rest.”

The win saw City close the gap on leaders Liverpool to 11 points, though the Reds have a game in hand because of their Club World Cup exploits. A title tilt still looks a long shot, but De Bruyne’s fitness will no doubt be key to even slimmest hope of reeling in Jurgen Klopp’s side.
