Man City star Kevin de Bruyne gives verdict on VAR following Spurs drama

Manchester City star Kevin de Bruyne has revealed his thoughts on a controversial VAR decision which cost the Blues a home win over Tottenham Hotspur.

Gabriel Jesus netted in injury time as City looked set for a 3-2 victory over Spurs, only for VAR to rule that Aymeric Laporte had produced a handball in the build-up to the strike.

City fans aplenty and an array of pundits believe the decision to have been harsh on City, who were also dealt a cruel blow in the Champions League quarter-finals last season against Tottenham when a Raheem Sterling late winner was ruled out.

This time around it meant two dropped Premier League points for Pep Guardiola 's side, who had taken the lead in the first half when Sterling headed home De Bruyne's wonderful cross.

Erik Lamela equalised for Spurs but Sergio Aguero soon tucked away another brilliant ball in from De Bruyne, only for Lucas Moura to level the contest with a header.

De Bruyne's brilliance wasn't enough for City who suffered the aforementioned VAR controversy in the final minutes, something which it's safe to say frustrated the Belgium international.

The 28-year-old let his thoughts be known post-match thanks to a frank interview with the BBC.

"It feels weird to have the last-minute goal disallowed but we just have to accept it," De Bruyne told BBC Match of the Day.

"I'm old school - I love the flow of the game and the enthusiasm. But if we want to get the game better I'm fine with it.

"I have no issue with the rule - the rule is the rule - but it should be looked at because that situation is crazy.

"Everybody is proud with the way we performed - Spurs got two goals but they only had two chances so they were really clinical. We have to be proud because to play at this level against a team like Tottenham is really good for the rest of the season.

"It's always more difficult in a big game but we almost totally dominated them. They had some of the ball but it was always their defenders that had the ball which wasn't an issue for us."
