Man City star Kevin De Bruyne asked if he's a better crosser than Man Utd legend David Beckham

Manchester City's Kevin De Bruyne believes he is a completely different player to Manchester United legend David Beckham after being asked who is the better crosser.

De Bruyne has his sights set firmly on the Premier League assist record this season after creating 12 goals for his teammates in his first 19 appearances.

Arsenal legend Thierry Henry currently holds the record with 20 and De Bruyne's ridiculous assists this season has led to comparisons with Beckham.

The former Manchester United star is widely regarded as one of the best players ever at crossing the ball and the Man City star was asked who is better during an appearance with BT Sport.

De Bruyne feels the two are completely different players meaning it's difficult to compare.

"I don't know, I think we are different players," he told What I Wore. "I think it's very difficult to compare players from different generations because football changes.

"People say it's the same sport but it's played very differently.

"Obviously, he's been one of the best crossers.

"I'm already happy. I've had people put me together with these great names which means I'm doing very well for myself."

The Belgium international was also asked whether he knew the significance of the famous 1998/99 Man City away shirt.

Paul Dickov's injury time goal at Wembley Stadium ensured City took the League 2 Play-off final penalties where they emerged victorious.

De Bruyne admitted he didn't understand what the shirt meant when joining the club but is now fully clued up on it's importance.

He said: "On the first day, I didn't really understand the shirt but now I do with Paul Dickov's goal and the celebration after it.

"I like it. It's old school.

"Obviously, you need to learn it. I don't expect people to know everything about the team they come to but over time you learn more about the colours and the history."
