Man City star Jack Grealish highlights England boss Gareth Southgate’s huge Euro 2020 mistake

Carabao Cup holders, Manchester City were booted out of the competition 5-3 on penalties against West Ham on Wednesday.

Phil Foden was the first to take a spot-kick and missed, sweeping the ball wide of goal in what would prove to be the decisive moment as City lost a tie in a competition they have made their own for the first time in five years

The 21-year-old had a better experience in the 2020 final, when he was named man of the match after a 2-1 win over Aston Villa at Wembley. It was a moment so special that it gave Foden the inspiration to name his pet dog 'Carabao'.

Jack Grealish, on the other hand, dispatched his penalty emphatically.

The £100million man previously revealed he wanted to take a penalty but wasn't chosen by Gareth Southgate to take one as England suffered heartache from 12 yards against Italy in the final of Euro 2020.

In the latest City Is Ours Facebook Live, writer Alex Brotherton and editor Dom Farrell discussed all things City, including Foden and Grealish’s contrasting efforts from the the spot.

DF: “Would it be unfair to say Carabao the dog would have taken a better penalty [than Foden]? He dragged it wide, awful spot-kick. Then, after that, West Ham and City took an immaculate set of penalties I thought.

“Gabriel Jesus sat the goalie down, I was thinking he'd then put it wide. Jack Grealish emphatically hit the back of the net. It's probably one for Gareth Southgate to think about. Maybe he should have been there in the Euros final.

“He could have broken the camera like Harry Maguire did!"

AB: “I was very glad that Grealish scored because I thought that was perfectly set up for everyone to jump on his back and say, 'Oh, the £100m man misses his penalty. He looked pretty nervous.

“It’s probably just a load of rubbish to say he looked nervous, but he did. He didn’t look confident let’s say that.”
