Man City star Ilkay Gundogan reveals message he'll send Jurgen Klopp if Liverpool FC win Champions League final

Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan will put club rivalry to one side if Liverpool win the Champions League final on Saturday night.

Gundogan was a member of the City side who crashed out of the Champions League to Tottenham at the quarter-final stage, and admits the disappointment of the tie took some time to go away.

City responded by lifting the Premier League and FA Cup to complete the domestic treble, but now those celebrations have subsided Gundogan and his teammates will have to watch Spurs and Liverpool compete for the Champions League title.

Gundogan suggested the game will not be easy to watch, but he will still take time to congratulate his former manager Jurgen Klopp if Liverpool win in Madrid.

“I was hurt for a long time,” he told SID. “In fact, the ache has been hurting for a very long time.

“I really did not look at the games that followed, and dealt with other things.”

Gundogan played under Klopp at Borussia Dortmund, including in the 2013 Champions League final defeat to Bayern Munich. And the German says he will reach out to Klopp if he leads Liverpool to glory.

“For the final, of course I will look at the private circle,” he said.

“If you win, you tend not to care, but should Jurgen Klopp win with Liverpool then I would definitely congratulate him in the days after that.”
