Man City star Ilkay Gundogan plays down injury concern after PSG win

Ilkay Gundogan played down any injury concerns after being on the wrong end of a nasty challenge in the 2-1 win over Paris Saint-Germain.

Goals from Kevin De Bruyne and Riyad Mahrez had helped turn the game into Manchester City's favour, having only conceded one goal during a first-half onslaught from the home team. PSG then lost their discipline along with their control of the match, and Idrissa Gana Gueye lost the right to remain on the pitch with a terrible tackle that left Gundogan writhing on the floor in agony.

The German midfielder picked himself up as Gueye was shown his marching orders, and managed to finish the game without needing to be substituted despite Fernandinho getting stripped to come on. He took to social media after the match to answer concerns from a fan about his physical state, saying: "I'm fine. All good. Thanks for all your messages."

Guardiola will hope that the club's leading goalscorer this season will be able to dust himself down and be ready in time for the second leg against PSG next Tuesday. Not only has he been an integral part of their Champions League campaign but he is also the only player in the squad to have featured in a final - for Borussia Dortmund in 2013 when they lost to Bayern Munich at Wembley.

City's manager admitted his team had been too shy in the opening 45 minutes in Paris but was delighted with the way they recovered to record a famous win.
