Man City star Fernandinho recalled to Brazil squad after exile for 2019 Copa America

Man City midfielder Fernandinho has finally been recalled to the Brazilian national team after not featuring since the 2018 World Cup.

City's defensive rock and one of the best players in the Premier League this season took a lot of the flak for Brazil's poor showing in Russia, as they were eliminated at the quarter-final stage by Belgium.

Fernandinho had not been called up to the Selecao since then, missing eight fixtures and was unsure on his future at international level. When asked if he was going to retire from Brazil in October, he said: “Maybe, I don’t know,” he said. “We’ll see. You never know in football.”

But now he's back in the side, providing he remains injury free, for this summer's Copa America tournament in his home country.

He will also be joined by his City teammates Gabriel Jesus and Ederson.

Brazil are guranteed to play at least five games this summer. They'll face off against Qatar and Honduras in friendlies before the tournament, when they kick-off against Bolivia on June 15.

They also have Venezuela and Peru in their group and could play up to a further three matches should they go all the way in the competition which they haven't won since 2007.
