Man City star demands rule change following VAR controversy vs Spurs

Manchester City and Tottenham managed to serve up plenty of goals, excitement and controversy as they shared a 2-2 draw at the Etihad Stadium - and now one player is demanding a rule change.

Raheem Sterling opened the score for the hosts as he headed home Kevin de Bruyne's cross before Spurs equalised thanks to an Erik Lamela effort from outside the box.

City soon regained the lead thanks to another assist from De Bruyne, with Sergio Aguero this time finding the back of the net. However, Lucas Moura came off the bench to head home to level the contest once more.

There was still time for plenty of drama though, with Gabriel Jesus netting only for VAR to rule the goal out due to a heavily debated handball from Aymeric Laporte.

This decision has left City fans and players alike furious and even led to one key player in Ilkay Gundogan stating that the new handball rule should be changed.

Gundogan posted on Twitter: "Today's VAR decision is really hard to take. Any attacker that commits handball, intentional or not, is now ruled a free kick?

"And if you’re defending it’s fine?? It only disadvantages the attacking team. In my opinion this rule needs to be changed."

The new rules for the 2019/20 season have deemed that even none-deliberate handballs can be penalised if they lead to a goal being scored.
