Man City star Bernardo Silva makes big Phil Foden prediction

Bernardo Silva has backed Phil Foden to become one of the best midfielders in the world.

There has been excitement around the Manchester City youngster for years within the academy, and Pep Guardiola has rejected all suggestions of a loan move to keep him close to him in the first team squad for the last two years.

Foden showed his growing use to the team when he scored the winner against Tottenham in the Premier League run-in last season in just his second start in the competition, and impressed his manager in pre-season after an eye-catching performance with England at the European Under-21 Championships.

Bernardo, City's best player last year who is being touted as a potential Ballon D'Or candidate, believes Foden can go right to the top of the game based on what he has seen.

"It's good if you don't put too much pressure on him because he's from 2000. I think he's six years younger than me so wow!" he told the BBC .

"But he's a huge, huge talent. If he keeps working as hard as he does every day - because he does work very hard - and if his mentality is good and he has that, in one or two years he's one of the best midfielders in the world. He has the potential for that.

"I never had that much pressure because I went step by step. For Phil because he comes from Man City, to go from the second team to the first one is a huge step. I went from the second team of Benfica to Monaco and then to Man City.

"He enjoys playing football and loves what he does. He just has to keep enjoying it and he will be successful. When you have a good mentality as he does and you're good - because he's very good - it's a matter of time. Sometimes you need six more months or a year, but sooner or later he'll be one of the best."
