Man City stance on Sergio Ramos transfer from Real Madrid

Manchester City will not be trying to sign Sergio Ramos despite the Real Madrid star's availability on a free transfer.

The Blues were linked with the 35-year-old veteran by reports in Spain, with suggestions that he was being lined up for a two-year deal.

With Aymeric Laporte indicating he was not happy at being third choice centre back, and Nathan Ake also believed to be considering his future, there was a chance City could be in the market for a centre back.

But Ramos, who has won four Champions Leagues and five La Liga titles, is not on their list of possible targets.

The Blues have prioritised a striker this summer, with Sergio Aguero 's departure - he signed on a free transfer for Barcelona on Monday - leaving a large gap in their squad.

The link between Ramos and City appears to be a case of agents using City's name to drum up interest in the player, or maybe force Madrid's hand, with talks over a new deal ongoing.

Ramos is due to meet with club president Florentino Perez in the next few days to discuss a renewal, with the deadlock over his contract situation having dragged on all season.
