Man City squad numbers available to incoming signing Sergio Gomez

Sergio Gomez is on his way to Manchester City and he's here to stay.

City were originally planning on the signing of the left-back to be a developmental one, with an immediate loan exit to allow him to continue playing first-team football. However, City's struggles in signing a left-back for the first team have led to a change of heart.

The Blues allowed Oleksandr Zinchenko to join Arsenal this summer with the intention of signing Brighton's Marc Cucurella to replace him. But they were not willing to match the Seagulls' lofty valuation. Instead, Chelsea swooped in to sign him in a £63million move.

With no other apparent alternatives, Pep Guardiola has confirmed that Gomez will instead remain with his side once his £11million move from Anderlecht is complete. Though most of the squad numbers the Spaniard has worn during his career are unavailable at City, there are still plenty of options for him to choose from.

No.11

Though traditionally a number for a winger, the last two wearers of No.11 at City have been left-backs in the form of Zinchenko and Aleksandar Kolarov. Gomez could potentially carry on that tradition if he picks it.

No.12

Also last worn by a left-back, and a Spanish one at that in Angelino, No.12 is vacant.

No.15

No.15 has been available since 2019 upon the departure of Eliaquim Mangala. Another Spanish wide player Jesus Navas also wore it at the Etihad.

No.21

Numbers Gomez has previously worn in his career (17, 10, 18, 6, 8 to name a few) are all taken at City but No.21 is free. It has been since Ferran Torres' departure last season and Gomez wore the number in Barcelona's youth ranks.

No.24

Nedum Onuoha, John Stones and Tosin Adarabioyo have all worn No.24 in recent years so it could be a fitting choice for another defender.

No.25

Available for the first time in eight years this summer after the departure of captain Fernandinho, Gomez would certainly have a lot to live up to if he opted for No.25.

No.27

Joao Cancelo had worn No.27 with distinction since arriving at the club but jumped at the chance to upgrade to No.7 upon Raheem Sterling's departure this summer, leaving it up for grabs.

Also available: 28, 29, 30, 32, 34, 35 onwards.
