Man City set to sign Filip Krastev after he passes medical as Pep Guardiola plans future

Pep Guardiola is set to sign his first player of the summer with PFC Slavia Sofia youngster Filip Krastev poised for a medical.

Slavia Sofia's chairman Ventseslav Stefanov confirmed that the deal was close but added that the player would remain at the club until the end of the year.

The 18-year-old is set to begin in the Manchester City academy.

Despite his age Krastev has made 25 appearances for the senior side in Bulgaria.

And Stefanov told dsport : "It recently became clear that Filip performed well in the tests. Everything went well.

"Now he will return to Bulgaria, and at the beginning of next week we should finalise the deal.

"Manchester City like him a lot. He will stay to play in Slavia until the winter."

A statement from the club also read: "The parameters for the transfer of Filip Krastev to Manchester City have already been specified.

"The contract will be signed next week and will be announced to the public as soon as it is finalised.

"We urge the media not to bother Filip Krastev, who continues his preparations with the team for the upcoming matches of the championship."

City are set to address several areas within their squad at the Etihad.

David Silva is moving on after a decade in Manchester leaving the club light of a midfield option.

It has also been confirmed that Leroy Sane won't sign a new deal and will be moved on should City agree a deal with another club, likely to be Bayern Munich.

But the problems at the heart of defence have proved to be Guardiola's most demanding challenge following the injury to Aymeric Laporte.

The club opted not to replace Vincent Kompany last summer but have found their resources stretched.
