Man City set to give Liverpool guard of honour following Premier League title success

It is believed Liverpool will be given a guard of honour by Manchester City when the two sides meet next week.

The Reds claimed their first Premier League title on Thursday evening after Pep Guardiola's side fell to defeat against Chelsea.

And reports are suggesting the the 2018/19 champions will applaud Liverpool onto the field at the Etihad on July 2.

Guard of honours have become commonplace in English football, and are marks of respect shown to champions who win the title before the season's conclusion.

No confirmation has yet been made but City are claimed to be keen on showing Jurgen Klopp's side this gesture of respect.

All teams are currently obeying social distance rules which means opposing outfits are not allowed to enter the stadium from the tunnel together and pre-match handshakes have also been temporarily banned.

With seven games still left to play the Reds could be set to be applauded onto the pitch a record seven times.
