Manchester City are hopeful of pipping Chelsea to the signing of Millwall prospect Samuel Edozie.

The 16-year-old is highly regarded by the Championship club and he has already played for their under-18 side.

Chelsea and City have watched the winger in action this season, primarily when he has been playing for the under-16s, and both are keen to sign him.

However, Standard Sport understands it is Manchester City who are leading the race for Edozie and are the favourites to sign him.

Millwall have high hopes for the Nigerian and would like him to stay at the club and continue his development there.

However, the prospect of joining a Premier League club’s youth setup is seemingly persuading Edozie to move on.

Manchester City have developed a strong academy structure since being taken over by the Abu Dhabi United Group back in 2008 and have enjoyed success at that level.

The club’s under-18s have reached the final of the FA Youth Cup in four out of the past five seasons, but they are yet to win it.

City have invested heavily in their youth teams, acquiring talent from clubs across the world, and Edozie is the latest name they have identified to join them.
