Man City 'set to battle Liverpool FC for Lyon midfielder Nabil Fekir'

Manchester City have already beaten Liverpool to the Premier League trophy, and now they are reportedly trying to beat the Reds to a long-term transfer target.

A report in The Sun says City have joined the race for Lyon forward Nabil Fekir, who was set to join Liverpool last summer before the proposed transfer fell through.

Jurgen Klopp's men managed fine without him - producing the third-best points total in Premier League history to push City until the final day - but links with the Frenchman have never gone away.

Lyon’s president Jean-Michel Aulas has confirmed that Fekir, who is out of contract next year, is likely to be sold this summer.

“[With] Nabil we have an understanding that he can go,” Aulas said. “Thanks Nabil for bringing what he brought, we have an understanding to let him go.”

Meanwhile, Marcus Rashford’s agent is reported to have used interest from City as a bargaining tool in his attempt to land the striker the best possible new contract at Manchester United.

It is claimed by Metro that Pep Guardiola would sign Rashford “in a heartbeat” were he to be made available by United.

United have no intention of selling the 21-year-old, although they have been surprised by the slow pace of negotiations, with his current deal at Old Trafford expiring in 2021.
