But the postponement also handed City a major fixture headache, with the Blues facing a pile-up of games and little space in their schedule to play them.
City are next in action on February 22, when they travel to Leicester in the Premier League, with Guardiola's side away to Real Madrid in the Champions League four days later.
Four days after that, City take on Aston Villa in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley, with March jam-packed with fixtures for Guardiola and his players.
On March 4, Pep Guardiola's side go to Sheffield Wednesday in the FA Cup, then face local rivals Manchester United at Old Trafford four days later in the league.
Six days later, City take on Burnley at home, before hosting Real in the return leg of their Champions League last 16 clash at the Etihad on March 17.
City are then in action at Chelsea on March 21, in the Premier League, before the two-week international break.
Should City reach the quarter-finals of the Champions League, there will be even fewer dates available to play the rearranged West Ham game.
If City got past Real, that would leave a midweek game on April 21 or 22 as the next potential date for the game against Hammers.
Guardiola's side host Newcastle on April 18 in the league, but that game could also be postponed if holders City remain on course for a successful defence of the FA Cup.
