Man City sent West Ham warning after their shock win over Liverpool

West Ham will have nothing to fear when they take on Manchester City later this month, according to Ian Wright.

The Hammers are flying under David Moyes, having gone third in the Premier League after stunning Liverpool to inflict a first defeat of the season on Jurgen Klopp’s side.

They sit level on points with City following that 3-2 win at the London Stadium, and continue their fine run of form having picked up where they left off after securing a place in Europe last season.

There are some big tests on the horizon for Moyes’ side though, with a trip to the Etihad Stadium at the end of the month (November 28) before heading to Chelsea a week later on December 4.

Having seen his former side continue to impress, though, Wright feels they can take on City with the same attitude which saw them overcome Liverpool.

“What that does, for West Ham, when you beat a team like Liverpool, and we’re talking about 25 unbeaten Liverpool, then it doesn’t matter who comes, and it doesn’t matter where you go,” Wright said while analysing the game for the Premier League.

“Like he (Moyes) said, in the second half, he just said ‘let’s go for them’. They’ve tried it before, and Mo Salah scored and they beat them, but this is a different West Ham side with a different confidence.

“He’s got five or six players who are playing the best football of their lives up to this point.

“He should go for them, because even if West Ham lost this game, it’s not going to look bad on them, so you might as well go for them.

“Now, they’re in the top three, yes they’ve got City and Chelsea to come, but when they come, they won’t be thinking ‘let’s be scared of them’, it’ll be ‘let’s go for them again and see what happens’.”

Former Liverpool and City winger Steve McManaman agreed, adding: “They deserve it, it’s not a fluke. From the beginning of the season, they’ve spent time at the top of the league. Yes they’ve drifted down a little bit, but they spent time at the top of the league.

“They’ve always been in that upper echelon, so to jump back into third is not a surprise at all, and the fact they are joint with Man City, who everybody regards as the title favourites, and three behind Chelsea, gone above Liverpool, it’s an incredible achievement.

“Who’s to say when they go to Man City or Chelsea turn up at their stadium that they can’t give them a run for their money and maybe take points off them?”
