Man City send message to Mikel Arteta after Arsenal boss tests positive for COVID-19 coronavirus

Manchester City have sent a classy message to former assistant manager Mikel Arteta after the Arsenal head coach tested positive for the COVID-19 coronavirus.

Arteta spent three years working alongside Pep Guardiola at the Etihad Stadium following his retirement from playing.

He was highly-regarded at the Etihad and despite his move to the Emirates he is still fondly thought of by those in the blue half of Manchester.

Arteta was struck down by the coronavirus on Thursday evening, testing positive for COVID-19, with Arsenal's game against Brighton on Saturday postponed.

How might Coronavirus impact the football season?

A statement on Arsenal's official website read: "Our London Colney training centre has been closed after head coach Mikel Arteta received a positive COVID-19 result this evening.

"Arsenal personnel who had recent close contact with Mikel will now self-isolate in line with Government health guidelines.

"We expect this to be a significant number of people from Colney, including the full first-team squad and coaching staff, as well as a smaller number of people from our Hale End Academy which we have also temporarily closed as a precaution.

"We expect those who did not have close contact with Mikel to return to work in the coming days.

"In the meantime our Colney and Hale End training centres will undergo a deep clean and our other club sites are operating as normal."

And City sent a message of support to Arteta in the wake of the news coming out.

A simple post on Twitter read: "Everyone at Manchester City wishes Mikel a speedy recovery," with a blue heart.

Arteta is well liked in football circles and at testing times like this the football community all comes together.
