Man City send message to Chelsea ahead of Champions League final with amazing gesture

Manchester City owner Sheikh Mansour has set the standard for taking care of supporters ahead of the Champions League final.

Chelsea and Manchester City go head-to-head in the Champions League final on May 29 in Porto after UEFA's showpiece event was moved from Istanbul due to travel restrictions.

After the new location was confirmed, flight prices to Porto and the surrounding areas skyrocketed in anticipation of a rush of bookings, with both teams getting 6,000 tickets for the final.

But with prices racking up for supports in what is a difficult time financially for many, City owner Mansour has pledged to pay for travel and transfers for fans of his club who are travelling on the official club trip.

Speaking about the remarkable gesture, Mansour said: "Pep and the team have had such a remarkable season and their reaching the Champions League Final after a very challenging year represents a truly historic moment for the Club.

"It is therefore incredibly important that as many fans as possible have the opportunity to attend this special game. Especially those who have supported Manchester City through good and bad times for so many years.”

City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak added: "The challenges faced by supporters ahead of this final are multiple, both in financial and logistical terms.

"Hopefully His Highness’ initiative allows the majority of our attending fans to focus on enjoying the day rather than worrying about how to bear the burden of travel costs which have become all the more onerous due to the effects of the pandemic.”

The gesture is one Chelsea fans will hope their billionaire owner Roman Abramovich will look to match given how much it will cost them to follow Chelsea to the final.

The Blues were unable to win in front of fans in the FA Cup final, but as they look to win their second Champions League title, they will want as many supporters as possible behind them in Porto.

And you can bet those Chelsea fans will be even louder come Champions League final day if the club helps them avoid dipping into treasured savings in order to follow their club.
