Man City send message to Barcelona over Antoine Griezmann transfer

Barcelona have been made aware that Manchester City have no interest in buying Antoine Griezmann this summer.

Pep Guardiola's side are in the market for a world class centre-forward this summer, with a significant sum of money put aside to land the Sergio Aguero successor that is needed at the club. However, Dortmund and Tottenham are both in strong negotiating positions over top City targets Erling Haaland and Harry Kane respectively, leaving the Blues in a difficult spot.

Relations between City and Barcelona have warmed since the recent re-appointment of Joan Laporta to be club president at the Nou Camp; Sergio Aguero and Eric Garcia have both arrived from the Etihad on free transfers, while several other City players including Aymeric Laporte and Ilkay Gundogan have been courted.

Barcelona are in serious financial bother, with reports that they need to get players off the wage bill before they can register new players and also re-sign Lionel Messi. Griezmann is one of the high earners that is seen as both dispensable and able to command a high fee, despite failing to meet expectations since his £107m move two years ago.

However, while reports have linked City with a move for the forward to solve their attacking issue the Blues have made sure Barcelona know that they are not interested in signing the French 30-year-old.

City informed Barcelona earlier in the summer that they would not consider player-swap deals in light of interest from the Spanish club in stars such as Laporte.
