Man City's Zinchenko provides injury update ahead of FA Cup semi-final vs Brighton

It seems as though Aleks Zinchenko's injury is not as bad as first feared after the Man City left-back provided an  update on his Instagram on Thursday.

The stand-in left-back was substituted after just 19 minutes in the dominating 2-0 win against Cardiff City in the Premier League and he left the field clutching his right hamstring.

Pep Guardiola was pessimistic about the injury after the game saying: "It doesn’t look good, right now I don’t know but it doesn’t look good for next game."

The Blues boss also added that Zinchenko would be "out for a while."

Yet it appears that the injury may not be as bad as first feared as Zinchenko took to his Instagram to thank fans for their supportive messages and reduce concerns over his fitness.

"Good team performance," the Ukraniain said, "and we have 6 more finals in Premier League!

"Thanks for your support and messages, the injury is not so serious. Will come back stronger."

It's not yet known how long Zinchenko faces on the sidelines or if he will be fit in time for the FA Cup semi-final at Wembley on Saturday.

It gives Guardiola a selection headache for the Brighton clash as Fabian Delph is 'definitely out' and Benjamin Mendy hasn't started a game since November and may be lacking match sharpness, especially after being spotted in a Manchester club in the early hours of Saturday morning.

When asked if Mendy could come into contention on Saturday, Guardiola said: "We will see tomorrow how he trains and how he feels but we don’t have many options."

Zinchenko has established himself as the first-choice left-back in Mendy's absence and has emerged as City's break through star of the season.

Guardiola would be forced to play either Danilo or Aymeric Laporte out of position at left-back if Zinchenko or Mendy aren't fit for the trip to Wembley and Guardiola has admitted losing Zinchenko would be a blow.

He gives a lot and is an important player for us," Guardiola said. "He knows how we play but it is what it is, during the season this has happened a lot we play a lot of minutes we will accept it and will find a solution.

"I don’t know which one because Danilo not his natural position because he is right. We will see what decision to make ahead of the FA Cup semi final."
