Man City's Raheem Sterling reveals reaction to Liverpool's win over Barcelona and sends title message

Manchester City's Raheem Sterling has admitted he was 'buzzing' for his former club Liverpool following their heroic Champions League comeback against Barcelona.

The ex-Reds attacker, who left Anfield in 2015, has described the happiness he felt for England team-mates Jordan Henderson and Trent Alexander-Arnold.

On Thursday night Sterling collected the Football Writers' Association Footballer of the Year award.

And speaking after picking up the prestigious accolade the 24-year-old revealed: "I was really happy for Liverpool, I was buzzing.

"People might not believe me but it’s true. Seeing some of the boys like Hendo and Trent in the final makes me happy, I’m really happy for them."

Pep Guardiola's team travel to Brighton on Sunday in search of a win which would see them retain their Premier League title.

But a Liverpool win at Anfield against Wolves and City's failure to secure three points could see Jurgen Klopp's side end the Reds' 29-year league title drought.

Sterling said: "We know how big an occasion it is. But I’d much rather be on our side, to know if we win the game it’s ours.

"It will be a tough day, that’s for sure. We know Brighton won’t just sit there and let us score goals.

"They’re safe and it is going to be a really tough day, to be honest with you, but it is one I am really looking forward to."
