Man City's preparations for West Ham clash in China thrown into disarray for a second time

West Ham and Manchester City are due to face each other in the Premier League Asia Trophy in a little over 48 hours time - but Pep Guardiola's team have still not arrived in China.

The reigning Premier League champions were due to fly out to Shanghai on Saturday but their plane from Manchester was grounded as they hadn't been given permission to fly in Chinese airspace.

They were expected to try again on Sunday but the issue had still not been resolved and they were grounded for a second day, meaning they can't fly out until Monday at the earliest and even then, it's not confirmed.

According to our colleagues at the Manchester Evening News, City officials are still confident that they will be able to fulfill their trophy commitments but they are due to take on the Hammers on Wednesday evening in China, leaving Guardiola's team little time to prepare and train for the game.

A City statement said: "Due to an unforeseen administrative issue beyond the club's control, which is being resolved, regrettably, we will embark on our pre-season tour a little later than intended."

West Ham, Wolves and Newcastle have all arrived in China ahead of the Trophy, with two games scheduled for Nanjing on Wednesday and two taking place in Shanghai three days later.

The Hammers players flew into Shanghai on Sunday and took a high-speed train to their base in Nanjing, which takes around 90 minutes to two hours to make the journey.

They trained at the venue where they will hopefully take on City, at the Nanjing Olympic Sports Centre, on Sunday night.
