Man City's 'most likely' Champions League draw opponents revealed

The percentage probabilities of who Manchester City could end up facing in the last 16 of the UEFA Champions League have been revealed, with Atletico Madrid, Villarreal or Inter Milan the most likely.

City booked their place in the knockout stage with a game to spare, meaning Guardiola made changes to his side for their final Group A clash with German outfit RB Leipzig at the Red Bull Arena last Tuesday evening.

Despite signing off their group campaign with a defeat, which was their second in Group A, City still did enough over the course of their six group games to nail top spot, winning their four other matches, meaning they will be on the favourable side of this morning's draw in Nyon.

Being on the favourable side of the draw means that City will avoid the prospect of having to go head-to-head with the likes of Bayern Munich or Real Madrid at this stage of the tournament.

However, they could still find themselves coming up against several big-name European giants, including Atletico, Inter Milan and Sporting Lisbon, amongst others.

City, however, cannot be drawn against Paris Saint-Germain again, despite them being on the opposite side of the draw, as they faced each other in the group stage.

Nevertheless, according to MisterChips' algorithm, as cited by Si.com, City are most likely to end up facing Atletico, Villarreal or Inter Milan in the round-of-16, meaning they would find themselves up against a very difficult opponent.

The probability of City facing either of the two La Liga sides or Inter, according to the mathematics, is 18.58 per cent, whilst their least likely encounter, according to the data, is with either Benfica or Sporting Lisbon, with those having a 14.9 per cent of happening.

Meanwhile, reigning Champions League holders Chelsea are most likely to end up facing Real Madrid, with the prospect of that happening ranked at 32.3 per cent, whilst Manchester United are most likely to end up going head-to-head with Atletico, with that probability ranked at 18.5 per cent.

Liverpool, meanwhile, are most likely to end up locking horns with Villarreal, with that considered as having an 18.6 per cent chance of happening.

The draw for the last-16 will be made in Nyon this morning and it is scheduled to get underway at 11am GMT.
