Man City's Kevin De Bruyne named as the 'best' in the Premier League as unique quality revealed

Former Manchester City and England winger Shaun Wright-Phillips has described City architect-in-chief Kevin De Bruyne as the "best" player in the Premier League.

Since joining City from German outfit Wolfsburg in 2015, De Bruyne has gone from strength to strength, rising from a player that was seen to have no future at Chelsea to a generational talent.

Season after season, the Belgian has taken his game to a whole new level, with goals and assists flowing as regular as night and day, cementing himself as one of the most complete players of his generation.

De Bruyne has no shortage of competition for the mantle, including the likes of Manchester United duo Bruno Fernandes and Cristiano Ronaldo and Mohamed Salah of Liverpool, Wright-Phillips believes the Belgian is English football's leading light, insisting that the quality he brings to the table is "frightening."

"For me, he is the best," Wright-Phillips told the Man City podcast. "I think it is one of those things where people say 'it is an opinion' and people might say Bruno Fernandes, whereas I prefer Kevin.

"He doesn't really care too much about free-kicks or penalties; all he is interested in is putting on a blue shirt and playing well.

"The chances he creates from the position he creates them, sometimes I'm like 'how did you even see that? I can see that because I'm watching on TV, but how did you see that so well?'

"The quality that he brings into games is frightening."

One of De Bruyne's greatest assets is his ability to create chances, with the Belgian having racked up more than 100 assists during his City career.

With that statistic in mind, Wright-Phillips believes it is De Bruyne's vision and ability to see the game that makes him so special.

The former City man added: "He sees the picture before it arrives and I think the players that he is playing with, especially Raheem [Sterling], understand that. He can get the ball, turn, whip it in the box and Raheem just knows it's coming, because they have created an understanding.

"As a player, if you're playing wit Kevin De Bruyne and you can get on his level thinking you are always going to have success."
