Man City's Joao Cancelo on his £60m transfer fee, Kyle Walker, leaving Juventus and working with Pep Guardiola

Joao Cancelo immediately set his sights on Kyle Walker’s position after being unveiled at Manchester City.

The Portugal international has become the most expensive full-back in Premier League after completing a £60million move from Juventus.

Right back Cancelo has been brought in to provide genuine competition to Walker at the Etihad – and immediately made it clear he has not come to England to sit on the bench.

“I’m aware how Kyle is one of the best full-backs,” said the 25-year-old. “But I always love challenges, bring myself to the limit.

“I’m going to compete with him and I’ll try to get my place. It will be up to the manager to choose one or the other, but I promise I will try to work hard and compete as best as I can.

“As a player I like new challenges, I was aware of the competition I would find here. Walker is a great player, but the more competition you have the better you become as a player.

“I have a dream to be the best right-back. And the only way to do that is by challenging yourself. Only playing with the best can you do that.”

Cancelo also brushed off the size of his price tag – insisting it will not weigh on his shoulders.

He even added to the pressure by outlining his determination to help City turn domestic domination into Champions League glory.

“It’s a high price for a right-back, but the responsibility is good for me as it will push me to be a better player and to mature,” he added. “To be a better player than I was when I joined.

“I think both City and Juve are strong, they both want to win the Champions League. I love the project here, what they offer me, with a lot of young players, so I took the risk to come here. I’ve always liked it here.

“I believe in this club for the present and the future. It will be one of the top teams in the world as it’s been in the last few years.

Pep Guardiola was a big reason for me to join. I always admire him. It’s not by chance they’ve won the last two Premier Leagues and all the domestic trophies. I love his style of play his character - that’s one of the reasons why I’m here today.”
