Man City's January transfer window stance as Pep Guardiola discusses potential exit

Here are your Manchester City evening headlines on Monday, January 2.

City's stance in the transfer window

Manchester City are unlikely to change their plans for the January transfer window with another quiet month expected.

City dropped points at home for the second successive league game at the weekend, and saw Aymeric Laporte join Ruben Dias on the injured list. However, City prefer to do their first-team business in summer - Julian Alvarez was signed as one for the future 12 months ago - and have not seen anything from the Premier League so far to change their minds.

While Liverpool have already reinforced by signing Cody Gakpo and Arsenal, Chelsea and United all plan to strengthen, a look at the bench against Everton even without two centre-backs showed the exceptional strength that Pep Guardiola possesses in his small squad. Manu Akanji was signed in the summer window after City reacted to the injury issues of two centre-backs, but there are no obvious holes that have been identified for this month; that means that any fans desperate to see a new left-back at the club will be disappointed for another window.

Guardiola discusses new City contract

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has declared that he will not outstay his welcome at the club after being asked about his eventual exit.

Guardiola's previous deal was set to expire at the end of this season and some fans had become concerned as to whether he would extend his stay at the Etihad Stadium or not. Fortunately, Guardiola agreed a new deal towards the end of 2022 which will keep him at City until 2025.

Fans may expect that Guardiola will stay until his contract expires however in a recent interview with Marca, the Catalan boss claimed that the deal is 'just a bit of paper' and is not binding the 51-year-old to Manchester. He explained: "The moment I feel something is wrong, I will resign or not renew my contract.
