Man City's Gabriel Jesus reveals stance on his future amid transfer links with Arsenal

Arsenal missed out on a long-awaited return to the Champions League after finishing fifth in the 2021/22 season. With the campaign now over, the club's attention will turn to strengthening their squad to cope with the rigours of a domestic campaign with a return to the Europa League.

One area, in particular, is that Gunner's boss Mikel Arteta will be keen to strengthen his attack. Alexandre Lacazette has been confirmed as leaving the club when his deal ends at the end of the month, with no deal yet sorted for Eddie Nketiah as of yet.

The north Londoners have been linked with several potential replacements, including Manchester City forward Gabriel Jesus. The Brazilian was an integral part of City's Premier League title-winning team with 13 goals and 12 assists across all competitions.

However, the 25-year-old only has one year remaining on his contract and is widely expected to leave the Etihad Stadium this summer. And Jesus has revealed this weekend that he wants to do whats best for his career.

"I'm looking to see what's best for me and, above all, for my career. From Tuesday, we'll see what is the best," he said over the weekend, as relayed by Metro. This comes after Jesus' agent, Marcelo Pettinati claimed that talks regarding the former Palmeiras frontman's future will take place after the ongoing internationals.

Speaking to Freddie Paxton last month, Pettinati said: "At the moment, we understand all of the projects [on offer], so right now isn't the time to say anything. Things will advance after his time with the national team."

The 25-year-old is now into the last 13 months of his contract at City, who have signed fellow forward Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund.

Jesus has largely been a peripheral figure at City, mostly playing second fiddle to Sergio Aguero since he made the switch from Palmeiras in 2016. However, after the club failed to replace the Argentine upon his departure at the end of the 2020/21 season, he was afforded more opportunities by Pep Guardiola.

But with Erling Haaland set to join the club this summer, Jesus will likely have to be content with a place on the bench if he remains in Manchester. City reportedly wants around £42million for the Brazilian international's services.
