Man City's Erling Haaland interest suffers blow as Yaya Toure stays a cut above Mohamed Salah

Hello and welcome to the latest edition of the City is Ours Daily Digest, your once-a-day roundup of Manchester City news.

It's no secret that City are one of several clubs thought to have an interest in Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland, but recent comments made by Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel indicate that they will have a fight on their hands.

Liverpool's Mohamed Salah might be playing lights-out football at the moment, but according to one survey, he has not reached the level of Yaya Toure.

Phil Foden is arguably in career-best form and a former creative darling of English football have given the 'Stockport Iniesta' his seal of approval.

Lukaku no barrier to Chelsea going for Haaland

City know they are likely to face a tussle with other suitors if they decide to go after Haaland next summer, but now it appears that one competitor is closer to home than first thought.

Speaking to German outlet SportBild, Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel left open the possibility of his side making a move for the 21-year-old Norwegian.

"We have talked about Haaland a couple of times in the transfer window", Tuchel said. "It looked unrealistic and not possible to do. Of course we talk about regularly about him."

Asked whether the striking position at Chelsea has now been filled by Romelu Lukaku, and if that would rule out a move for Haaaland, he said: "You mean playing Lukaku and Haaland together? I have no problem to talk about that!"

Rather ominously for City, the coach of the London club ended the interview by saying "let us see what will happen the next weeks."

Yaya trumps Salah

Mohamed Salah might well have just equalled the record for the most goals scored in the Premier League by an African player, but in the eyes of voters he is is not the greatest African footballer to play on these shores.

That honour belongs to City great Yaya Toure.

In a Twitter poll conducted by SportingIndex, 41% of 6,500 voters picked Toure as the Premier League's greatest ever African player.

City's former midfield maestro, who over eight years at the club won three Premier League titles, one FA Cup and two League Cups, outscored both Salah and Didier Drogba, who tallied 20% and 35% respectively.

Up those best-ever African player, Yaya-&-Kolo-ing, birthday cake-snubbing Blues!

Foden's best position? Who cares!

Phil Foden was once again exceptional for City, as he dazzled in the Blues' 5-1 Champions League win against Club Brugge on Tuesday.

According to one former England star, it doesn't matter anymore what his best position is.

"Don't concern yourself with a role, he has to play every minute for England and he has to play for Man City", Joe Cole said on BT Sport during his analysis of Foden's impressive performance.

"People say he's replaced David Silva - where did Silva play for 10 years at City? He played left, right, in the centre. Top, top players can play anywhere."

The former creative midfielder, who has long criticised a tendency in English football to pigeon-hole players into specific positions rather than affording them freedom, went as far as to say that Foden is looking like City's best player at the moment.

"I think he is now becoming as influential as Kevin De Bruyne", the former Chelsea favourite added. It was certainly high praise for Foden, who Cole understandably sees as something of kindred spirit.
