Man City's Cole Palmer forced to withdraw from England U21 squad

Manchester City youngster Cole Palmer has withdrawn from Lee Carsley's England U21s squad after limping off in the 3-1 win over the Czech Republic.

Anthony Gordon scored twice, with Folarin Balogun adding the third, as the young Three Lions moved to within two points behind the Czech's.

The City man trudged off with 17 minutes to play clutching his hamstring, something that has been confirmed since.

As a result, he will miss the remainder of the camp and the trip to Georgia where they will play a friendly against the Euro 2023 co-hosts on Tuesday.

Palmer addressed the news on his Instagram saying: "Back soon, nothing serious."

However, the injury has forced him to depart St George's Park and return to Manchester City for the final week of the international break but the post on his social media may offer some relief in terms of his position in Pep Guardiola's squad.

"Cole is fine, there's a bit of stiffness in his hamstring so we'll monitor him and make sure he's well looked after," Carsley said after the game.
