Man City's Chloe Kelly shares Lionesses' World Cup verdict after Arnold Clark Cup success

Manchester City and Lioness star, Chloe Kelly, thinks retaining the Arnold Clark Cup title was perfect preparation for the 2023 Women’s World Cup in the Summer.

England invited three nations that were perfectly concocted to England’s needs and development ahead of the summer tournament. Immediately after the triumphant win over Belgium to keep the Arnold Clark Cup in the country, Kelly told ITV: “It’s a great feeling. It’s a great tournament in preparation for the World Cup, we’re building momentum and it was a brilliant team performance.”

The winger won the golden boot with a tally of three goals in the tournament. Kelly found the target in the opening game against Korea Republic and then netted two in England’s triumphant 6-1 win over Belgium. Denied the hat rick by the crossbar when her shot was tipped onto the woodwork by goalkeeper Nicky Evrard.

Kelly said: “I didn’t even realise [I had finished as top scorer], it’s a good achievement. Lucy [Bronze] said I’m the tap-in queen, so I’ll take that!

“I was a little bit [disappointed not to get the hat trick] to be fair, but it was a great team performance and that’s what tonight was about.”

The 25-year-old was joined on International duty by six other club teammates - Alex Greenwood, Lauren Hemp, Ellie Roebuck, Sandy McIver, Laura Coombs and Jess Park, the city youngster out on loan at Everton.

“It’s very special to be part of such an amazing group of staff and players. The performances show how incredible we are, we have great depth and that’s great. It was brilliant and we just keep moving forward,” added Kelly.
