Man City's Champions League ban could lead to huge Premier League blow and boost for Liverpool

Manchester City's Champions League ban has raised the prospect of the club landing Premier League sanctions.

Liverpool's nearest rivals in the top tier have been banned by UEFA for the next two seasons from next term.

City will appeal the decision via Court of Arbitration for Sport and they remain confident that an independent hearing will exonerate them.

But that hasn't stopped the reaction flooding in and now there are some serious consequences beyond the Champions League and Europa League which could be felt next season.

The Premier League have been investigating the club since March 2019 over financial regulations, academy player recruitment and third-party ownership.

The Independent are now reporting that City could even be handed a points deduction.

The Premier League will likely wait to find out the winner in the battle between City and UEFA whilst continuing their own investigation.

Here is what UEFA had to say about City's ban on Friday evening.

"The Adjudicatory Chamber, having considered all the evidence, has found that Manchester City Football Club committed serious breaches of the UEFA Club Licensing and Financial Fair Play Regulations by overstating its sponsorship revenue in its accounts and in the break-even information submitted to UEFA between 2012 and 2016," read a UEFA statement.

"The Adjudicatory Chamber has imposed disciplinary measures on Manchester City Football Club directing that it shall be excluded from participation in UEFA club competitions in the next two seasons (ie: the 2020/21 and 2021/22 seasons) and pay a fine of 30 million euros."
