Man City's Bernardo Silva named in Alan Shearer's Premier League team of the week

Man City star Bernardo Silva has been named in Alan Shearer's Premier League team of the week after his performance against Leicester at the weekend.

The Portuguese attacker was named in a midfield role alongside Ilkay Gundogan and scored what proved to be the winning goal when he reacted first to a deflected shot to blast the ball into net.

City moved to nine points from their opening four games, winning three in a row with three clean sheets and Bernardo 's energy has been praised by many as a key reason for Pep Guardiola's side being in the form they're in.

His performance on Saturday earned him the plaudits of former Newcastle striker Alan Shearer, who named him as part of a midfield four in his team of the week alongside Thiago Alcantara, Mateo Kovacic and Andros Townsend.

Shearer justified his decision saying; "The Portuguese was a shining light for Manchester City and was alert when he needed to be to score the winner."

Bernardo was linked with a move away from the club this summer but a deal never materialised and he has put in some great performances to earn himself regular game time in the absence of Kevin De Bruyne and Phil Foden in recent weeks.

The 27-year-old will be hoping to keep his place in the side for City's Champions League clash against RB Leipzig on Wednesday night, before a return to Premier League action against Chelsea at the weekend.
