Man City's Aymeric Laporte warns Liverpool and opens up on injury return date

Man City defender Aymeric Laporte has warned the title race with Liverpool is not over yet and issued an update on his fitness.

The Spaniard has featured just four times in the Premier League this season after sustaining a knee injury against Brighton in August.

In Laporte's absence Pep Guardiola's side have lost three games and drawn once which has allowed an unrelenting Liverpool to acquire an 11-point lead over last season's champions.

When asked if City can overhaul the Reds and go on to reclaim their title, the 25-year-old thinks it is not impossible.

He told The National: "Yes, of course. Last year was quite similar when [Liverpool] had a similar lead but we still have time this year to recover, to catch them and to again try to win the Premier League, so we hope we can do that.

"We need to make sure we work a lot and don’t lose any more games."

The centre-half also gave an update on when he could make his return to fitness.

"[My recovery] is going very well," Laporte said.

"Still I need time but I hope as soon as possible I can come back and play with my teammates.

"I can’t say when exactly but more or less one month-and-a-half to two months."

Man City have a chance to lower the points deficit as they take on Burnley at Turf Moor on Tuesday.

Liverpool are set host Everton in the Merseyside derby on Wednesday.
