Man City reveal how they fooled the world into thinking they smashed the Premier League trophy

Man City have revealed how they fooled the world into thinking that they had dropped the Premier League trophy and smashed it to pieces.

Ahead of City's bus parade through Manchester on Monday after claiming an unprecedented treble, a video went viral on social media which appeared to show the prestigious trophy lying in pieces on the floor after it had been dropped off a balcony at the Etihad Campus.

In a short video released by City they revealed that the club had invited supporters who were celebrating their birthday to meet Kevin De Bruyne and Sergio Aguero and see the title but they had no idea they would play a role in the prank.

A City representative left the room to 'get the photographer' and gave the message for everyone not to touch the trophy which was standing on a pedestal.

De Bruyne, on the other hand, immediately invited the fans to pick it up. As everyone posed for photos Aguero and De Bruyne threw the trophy over the edge to the shocked reactions of the fans in attendance.

Little did they know it was a perfect replica.

The City duo played their parts perfectly and quickly fetched the real thing, much to everyone's relief but not before a video of the smashed fake went viral and fooled the world.

The real trophy was later seen on City's open top bus parade as the squad celebrated with thousands of fans.

The prank came after left-back Oleks Zinchenko knocked the trophy over during last season's victory parade.
