Pep Guardiola welcomed the return of the 'outstanding' Antonio Conte to the Premier League after he was announced as the new Tottenham manager.
The former Inter Milan coach has taken the reins in North London and coach Nuno Espirito Santo was sacked on Monday following a 3-0 home defeat to Spurs where supporters openly questioned his competence.
Guardiola knows Conte well, having been unable to do anything about the Italian's Chelsea team storming to the Premier League in the 2016/17 season during his first season in English football. And the City boss did not feel the need to talk up his colleague because everything he has achieved in his career has already done that.
"Welcome back to the Premier League," said Guardiola.
"His career speaks for itself. He has had success everywhere, an outstanding manager."
Former Tottenham player Kyle Walker also spoke to the media ahead of City's Champions League game with Club Brugge and was asked for his thoughts on the appointment.
"I think he is a great manager," the right-back said.
"The pedigree and the clubs he has managed and the player he has managed, hopefully a successful appointment for them. It has been a tough couple of years for them and the managers who have come and I wish them all the best"
City have already played Spurs away this season - losing on the opening weekend - but will welcome Conte and his side to the Etihad for the return fixture in January.
