Man City problem position: Three transfer targets who could solve centre-back issue for Pep Guardiola

Manchester City fans have called on their club to strengthen in central defence when the transfer window opens.

We’ve polled supporters for their opinions on the ‘problem position’ within their squad, and over 64 per cent of City fans identified centre-back as their area of concern.

City really dropped the ball by failing to replace Vincent Kompany last summer and Pep Guardiola has paid for it.

The City manager insisted they simply didn’t have the money to compete with United for Harry Maguire - but they are going to have to find the funds to bring in a top class centre back this summer, maybe two.

Ruben Dias has been watched closely and it’s possible Guardiola will want to go with another up and coming defender, much like he did with Aymeric Laporte.

But in the final year of his contract, I wonder if he would be tempted to go for the readymade.

He is a huge fan of Leonardo Bonucci and the Italian has the stature to walk straight in and offer the kind of leadership they’ve lacked since Kompany left.
