Man City 'prepare Fernandinho contract offer' and more transfer rumours

Manchester City are close to agreeing a contract extension with Fernandinho this summer, according to reports.

Despite the Brazilian's desire for a two-year contract extension and City only prepared to offer the player a one-year deal at the club, the Mirror report Fernandinho, 36, is close to signing a new deal at the Etihad, with talks now making encouraging progress.

After eight trophy-laden years spent in Manchester, Fernandinho's contract with City is set to expire at the end of this month, but Pep Guardiola is said to want the defensive midfielder to extend his stay, which City officials are attempting to now make possible

It's reported that the discussions with Fernandinho have been productive and it's claimed he could play a role in the City Football Group when he finally decides to hang up his boots — news that will be warmly welcome by Blues supporters.

Regarding any potential arrivals this summer, Portuguese sports newspaper A Bola claim City have earmarked that a fee of £50million will be needed to sign left-back Nuno Mendes. The youngster is attracting attention after he enjoyed an excellent season with Sporting Lisbon in the Primeira Liga.

However, the MEN understand that City signing any left-back would be unlikely this summer unless they can make room in that position with a sale. Benjamin Mendy is arguably the most obvious candidate who could be shown the door.
