Man City poised to sign Valencia star Ferran Torres as Leroy Sane replacement

Manchester City are poised to sign Ferran Torres after the £21million-rated Valencia winger was linked to Manchester United and Liverpool.

City and Valencia have agreed a fee, and the Spanish under-21 international is be confirmed this week as a replacement for departed wideman Leroy Sane.

Pep Guardiola sanctioned the £40m sale of Sane to Bayern Munich last month - but only once the City boss knew he could sign Torres, who has agreed a five-year deal worth an estimated £55,000-a-week.

Guardiola has been tracking Torres all season, with the 20-year-old also believed to have been on the radars of United and Liverpool having emerged as one of Spain's brightest young prospects.

He scored four times and laid on five assists in 34 La Liga games for Valencia this season, becoming the youngest player in the club's history to make 50 appearances in the Spanish top flight.

Torres made his senior debut as a teenager during the 2017-18 campaign, making 13 appearances in total that season.

Guardiola is expected to make a host of new signings this summer as he looks to close the gap to Liverpool after the Reds ended City's two-year reign as Premier League champions.

The Catalan boss is looking to sign at least two defenders after his side's rearguard frailties were exposed too often this season as they lost their top-flight crown to Jurgen Klopp's side.

City have been linked to Bournemouth's Nathan Ake and Sevilla's Diego Carlos, among other potential defensive targets.

City's director of football Txiki Begiristain admits he is expecting a "strange" transfer window due to the financial impact of the coronavirus pandemic.

Begiristain said: "We have to be ready. We have less time than ever, so people will have to move fast. We still have the Champions League, so we have to wait to move forward."
