Man City player Taylor Harwood-Bellis strongly refutes wage taunt claims

Taylor Harwood-Bellis has strongly refuted the suggestion he taunted an opponent about how much money he makes.

The 17-year-old Manchester City defender was accused by Scunthorpe striker Kevin Van Veen of flaunting his wealth during Wednesday night’s EFL Trophy game between the Irons and the Blues' under-21 team.

Words were exchanged between the players after the 28-year-old Dutchman shoved Harwood-Bellis – who scored his first senior goal in the FA Cup win over Port Vale last weekend – into the hoardings, as he shepherded the ball out of play.

Van Veen claims Harwood-Bellis “cashed me up” by mentioning how much money he earned.

The teenager has strongly refuted that after being asked about the incident by the club, and City are satisfied with his account.

The two players were niggling at each other throughout the first half, and the referee had to step between them at one point.

Harwood-Bellis strongly denied any mention of money, but the club has refused to give his side of the story as they do not want to fuel the row.

One City fan who witnessed the heated row between the two players said: "You could see Taylor was angry at being shoved into the stand as he shielded the ball out, and words were exchanged."
