Man City player ratings vs Liverpool FC as Kevin De Bruyne and Rico Lewis excellent

Stefan Ortega

Didn't do a lot wrong in goal. Probably had to close down Nunez for the second goal, leaving Salah with a simple finish, but beaten by both shots on target. 6

Rico Lewis

Pressed aggressively up against Andrew Robertson and shuffled into midfield seamlessly. As big a game as he's ever played in and rose to the challenge. 8

Manuel Akanji

Solid enough return to action after two days training since his World Cup return. Perhaps too deep for the first equaliser. 6

Aymeric Laporte

Defended well to stop Nunez in the first minute or so, but was badly outpaced by the forward for Liverpool's second equaliser. 6

Nathan Ake

Played at left-back and had the unenviable task of stopping Salah. Scored once, could have scored twice, and fared reasonably well with Salah. 7

Rodri

Set up Mahrez's goal with a very quick pass and controlled the base of midfield throughout. Played with anger in his system, confronting Carvalho and Fabinho after being fouled. Aggressive. 8

Ilkay Gundogan

Didn't do enough for Liverpool's first goal. Could have closed Matip or dropped onto Milner but did neither. Helped control midfield, however. 6

Kevin De Bruyne

Saturday against Girona was a friendly but this was another step up and he was excellent again. Claimed two assists but could have had five or six. Deliveries into the box were faultless. 9

Cole Palmer

Stretched the play when on the left and gave Milner a tough time, in particular. A couple of rash shots but generally played well in an unfamiliar position. 7

Riyad Mahrez

Took his goal superbly and the touch to create the shooting angle was something special, especially as there were a couple of loose touches in the first half. 8

Erling Haaland

Took his goal well, but had missed a good chance inside 20 seconds and looked like he needed the workout. 7

Substitutes

John Stones

Fairly comfortable after coming on. 6

Jack Grealish

Quick feet on one occasion to befuddle Gomez. 7

Phil Foden

Came on as a false nine but saw little of the ball. 6

Bernardo Silva

Came on for the final few minutes of normal time. N/A
